Forest

Description:

Logging has been around since ancient times, ever since the need for tools arose. Logging is the ability to use axes and chop down trees in order to harvest wood. Virtually useless by itself, it is normally used to gather firewood, making handles on tools, making furniture, and architecture. A good skill for those who spend a lot of time outside, or wish to live off the land. If your character does not like the outdoors, or hard work, this is NOT a skill for you.

History:

No one nation can take credit for logging, it is something that has always existed since man discovered fire. Although all the nations use logging, they have several different techniques, depending on how big and thick local trees are in their area. Also, they use different kinds of axes. Some are curved, some straight, some long and some are short in order to tackle the kinds of trees local to their continent. Logging can be profitable on the large scale, otherwise it would mostly be for personal uses and maybe some small selling of excess. The uses for woods are endless, therefore most people who don't live within the comfort of a city usually take this skill on.

Skill Levels:

Novice (1-25) - At this level, the aspiring logger can chop down small trees, larger ones taking an extreme amount of time. The logger can somewhat smooth the wood and cut it into blocks, but the "smoothed" wood will be somewhat lumpy rather than truly smoothed, and the blocks will be of varying thicknesses, never consistent.

Competent (26-50) - The logger is becoming faster and faster at chopping wood, now able to chop down larger sized trees at an average speed. Smoothed wood will still have some tiny lumps and impurities, but for the most part of common quality. He will start being able to make somewhat consistent blocks of wood for building purposes.

Expert (51-75) - The expert logger is now amazingly fast at chopping wood, taking down larger trees in a matter of minutes. He can attempt to chop down Ancient Trees, but will take him a long amount of time. He can now truly call his smoothed wood smoothed, as it has no impurities other than the occasional mistake, and his blocks are fractions of an inch off from being consistent.

Master (76-100) - The logger, having mastered logging, can now take down trees in around 3 minutes, Ancient Trees taking him around 30. He smoothed wood is of the best quality, with no imperfections what-so-ever. His wood blocks are always consistent, highly coveted by architects and sculpting artists.
